The character of this Octad
Herald is the group of eight types sharing the three axes Irrational × Negativist × Declatim. Improvisationally responding to the situation (Irrational), sharply seeing defects, problems and breaches (Negativist), and declaring them assertively (Declatim). When the three overlap, the stance of proclamation rises up: "improvisationally seeing the breach and declaring it assertively."
The line-up — Politician, Conqueror, Strategist, Prophet, Visionary, Publicist, Mediator, Craftsman — are types skilled in power, strategy, insight and proclamation. The Politician (SEE) sees through power relations; the Conqueror (SLE) opens the breakthrough; the Strategist (ILI) reads the future; the Prophet (IEI) announces crisis; the Visionary (ILE) draws new conceptions; the Publicist (IEE) appeals to the world. Not bound by a fixed plan, they move in real-time response to changes in the situation.
Among the four Octads, Herald is the most active and proclaiming group. When the order that has been built starts to crack, it senses it earliest, declares without hesitation and opens the breakthrough. Like a herald — the announcer — declaring the turning of an era, it is the first to see the crisis and ring it out; that is the color of this group.
The three traits the eight share
The eight in Herald all come from different quadras yet completely share three binary traits. The combination of these three axes — Irrational × Negativist × Declatim — is precisely what determines Herald's color as a group. Temperament, club and internal compatibility all follow from these three axes.
When improvisation (Irrational), problem-detection (Negativist) and assertion (Declatim) overlap, the stance is to detect defects and crises earliest while responding in real time to changing situations, and to declare them assertively without hesitation. The three combined produce the posture of a herald — the first to announce a turning point.
Members — the eight types
Herald is the eight-person group that gathers one type sharing Irrational × Negativist × Declatim from each of the eight quadras (α · -α · β · -β · γ · -γ · δ · -δ).
Internal allocation — eight people carrying one style
The eight who share the same three axes divide roles inside the group. The diversity of values (all eight quadras), the diversity of interests (all four clubs) and the balance of extraversion and introversion all converge under the same style. The division can be organized by a lattice of two temperaments (Flexible-Maneuvering / Receptive-Adaptive) × four clubs (Researchers · Socials · Humanitarians · Pragmatists).
| Researchers | Socials | Humanitarians | Pragmatists | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strike (Flexible-Maneuvering) | Visionary ILE-D -γ | Politician SEE-D -α | Publicist IEE-D δ | Conqueror SLE-D β |
| See and declare (Receptive-Adaptive) | Strategist ILI-D γ | Mediator SEI-D α | Prophet IEI-D -δ | Craftsman SLI-D -β |
The two people in each column (the same club) are a value-inverted pair (sharing the interest but with opposite values — an extravert/introvert pair). The four people in each row (the same temperament) cover all four clubs, one each.
Multi-angled vantage through all value-sets
The eight in Herald cover all eight quadras' values, one each — α (Mediator) · -β (Craftsman) · γ (Strategist) · -δ (Prophet) · -α (Politician) · β (Conqueror) · -γ (Visionary) · δ (Publicist). What binds the eight is not values but the shared style Irrational × Negativist × Declatim. Because they are loosely bound by style, all mutually opposing values can be housed in one group. Herald is a group that can unfold the single stance of "proclamation" multi-angularly through the angles of every value-set.
Role in the crisis/transition cycle
Herald carries the third stage of the cycle, the entry to the refinement phase. Inheriting the order built by the previous stage, Forge (Construction) (bridging axis = Declatim), it improvisationally sees and declares the breaches and limits that arise in that order.
Herald is the turning point from the creation phase (0→1) to the refinement phase (1→100). Rather than merely praising the 1 that has been built, in order to raise it to 100 it first reveals assertively where the cracks are. The breaches Herald declares are systematically examined by the next stage, Judge (Verification) — the two share the stance of Negativist (bridging axis = Negativist), so the announced problems are handed to the planful verification phase.
