Filling the place that belongs to the two of you with warmth
Homemaker is the group within Caring (the Romance/love-style with sensation Si in the leading block) that takes the +Si polarity. Paired with Concierge (−Si, practical type), it is the "hospitable" variant of the sensing type.
+Si carries the polarity of process / diffusion and treats comfort as something to spread abundantly and let pervade the whole space. In contrast to −Si's "focal care that responds to concrete needs," it creates a warm atmosphere that envelops everyone involved, transforming life itself into a place of hospitality.
In romance, the Homemaker finds deep joy in filling the place that belongs to the two of them with warmth. A rich table, a comfortable space, a tranquil daily life — they wish to share with the partner the very texture of life that supports the relationship. They may appear "fond of caretaking" at first glance, but the essence is a sensibility that blesses simply being together. The shared comfort itself becomes proof of the certainty of the relationship.
Homemaker corresponds in Model K to four base types × D form, distributed across the α Quadra (Genesis) and −β Quadra (Civil Society). In both Quadras the irrational function is unified at + polarity (process/diffusion focus), sharing the same Promotion focus as Wanderer.
The four types diverge in expressive style according to their rational functions (Fe / Te), but all share the +Si leading block and the common structure of nurturing the relationship through shared comfort.
Beyond the leading block, the four types share identical values on the following 6 axes. These form the structural foundation of the "Homemaker" style.
| Trait axis | Shared value | Manifestation in relationship-building |
|---|---|---|
| Polarity | + polarity (process / diffusion) | Promotion focus — diffusive orientation toward abundance and hospitality |
| Perception function | Sensing (S) | Experiences the relationship through concrete reality, embodiment, and the feel of real things |
| Question / Declaration | Declaration (D) | Builds the relationship through assertions and statements of certainty |
| Static / Dynamic | Dynamic | Experiences the relationship as a process, allowing fluidity and change |
| Prudent / Resolute | Prudent | Acts only after deliberation and assessment; keeps cautious distance |
| Democratic / Aristocratic | Democratic | Sees the partner as an individual; orients toward equal relationships |
+Si (process/diffusion) functions to "let comfort pervade the whole space" and "circulate abundance." Whereas −Si (result/control) "narrows in on concrete needs and responds to them," +Si moves toward creating a space where anyone, in any state, can be at ease.
For the Homemaker, care means filling the place itself with warmth. The table, the room, the rhythm of daily life — all become instruments of hospitality, enveloping the body and mind of those involved.
The Homemaker's suggestive function is +Ne (the diffusion of possibility, openness to novelty). It corresponds to the leading function +Ne of the dual partner (Wanderer). Owing to the structure of Model K's Dual relation, duals correspond in leading and suggestive function with the same element and the same polarity.
Through the suggestive +Ne, the Homemaker looks for "a partner who brings a fresh breeze into the place they have arranged." Alongside their power to create an abundant daily life, the Homemaker deeply needs the presence of someone who keeps that daily life from sinking into inertia by bringing new interests and intellectual stimulation. The Wanderer's curiosity and inquiring spirit are what give "movement" to the space the Homemaker has arranged.
In Higgins's regulatory focus theory, the Homemaker is located in Promotion focus. "Increasing abundance" and "warming the space" sit at the motivational center; energy is directed toward widening and deepening existing happiness rather than guarding against deficiency. That is why they are hospitable, open, and possessed of a warmth that welcomes anyone.
Based on Gulenko 1996's primary description of Caring, refined for the +Si polarity.
Calm and mild, with an atmosphere that puts his partner at ease. He shows a natural talent for shaping the quality of life — cooking, living space, the spending of holidays. Strong passion-displays are restrained; he conveys love through the accumulation of everyday attentiveness. Sensitive to his partner's physical state, mood, and rhythm, he offers the needed warmth at the needed time. He naturally builds a family-like relationship and provides long-term stability.
A woman who wears abundance and warmth on her person. The Mediator (SEI-D) form warms the space through a quiet and gentle atmosphere; the Enthusiast (ESE-D) form through a bright and lively atmosphere. She expresses domestic care as a language of love and treasures the everyday festivities of cooking, decoration, and celebration. She finds deep joy in making her partner comfortable, but she equally needs to be cherished and accepted herself.
The Homemaker's dual substyle is Wanderer (Exploratory Childlike, +Ne). They share the same Promotion focus and stand in the functional complementarity of Si ↔ Ne.
Fills the place that belongs to the two of you with warmth. Wishes to share an abundant daily life with a partner who brings a new breeze and new discoveries to the place they have arranged.
A traveler whose heart leaps at the unknown. Seeks a warm place that supports the journey of inquiry, and a partner with whom they can share their curiosity.
| Quadra | Homemaker | ↔ | Wanderer |
|---|---|---|---|
| α (Genesis) | SEI-D Mediator | ↔ | ILE-Q Seeker |
| α (Genesis) | ESE-D Enthusiast | ↔ | LII-Q Analyst |
| −β (Civil Society) | SLI-D Craftsman | ↔ | IEE-Q Counselor |
| −β (Civil Society) | LSE-D Executive | ↔ | EII-Q Philosopher |
The "abundant, warm place" that the Homemaker offers answers the Wanderer's deep need for "a base that supports the journey of inquiry." Because the Wanderer's curiosity is unstable and their interest moves on from one thing to the next, a place that welcomes them warmly without change is needed. The Homemaker provides precisely that place.
Conversely, the Wanderer's "questions toward the unknown and intellectual curiosity" are experienced by the Homemaker as "the stimulus that brings a breeze into daily life." When the arranged place is kept from sinking into inertia and is always filled with new discoveries and topics, the Homemaker's motivation is wholly fulfilled. The experience of "not only arranging but the arranged space coming alive" fulfills the Homemaker's Ne suggestive function.
The two deepen their bond through a cycle of hospitality and exploration. Going out and coming home, discovering and sharing, the round-trip of a new wind and an unchanging warmth — through this cycle, the Homemaker's +Si abundance and the Wanderer's +Ne curiosity sustain each other. This is a textbook case of the well-being advantage of same-polarity couples (Promotion-Promotion) demonstrated in Bohns et al. (2013)'s "Opposites fit" research.
When the 16 combinations of 4 Homemaker types × 4 Wanderer types are unfolded in Model K's relational theory, all are classified as "complementary" or "affinitive" relations, and no negative relations (Conflict, Super-Ego, Supervision, Opposition, etc.) appear at all. This is a structural consequence of both substyles sharing the Promotion focus (+ polarity) wholesale.

The quality of compatibility is determined by polarity alignment and complementarity of courtship roles.
| Compatibility | Partner | Quality of relation |
|---|---|---|
| Dual | Wanderer (+Ne Exploratory Childlike) | Shared Promotion + Si-Ne complementarity. A calm and bright bond through the cycle of hospitality and exploration. |
| Same polarity | Hunter (+Se Pioneering Aggressor) | Shared Promotion. The Homemaker's place sustains the Hunter's vitality. A dynamic and warm relationship. |
| Same polarity | Ironist (+Ni Comic Victim) | Shared Promotion. The Homemaker's warmth gently envelops the Ironist's intellect and irony. |
| Counter-pair | Concierge (−Si Practical Caring) | Same Caring, but inverted polarity. Resembles in sensing function but differs in motivation: abundance vs. necessity. |
| Opposite polarity | Mentor (−Ne Accompanying Childlike) | Roles complement, but motivational structure is inverted: open hospitality vs. focal accompaniment. |
| Opposite polarity | Owner (−Se Possessive Aggressor) | Certainty and exclusivity can leave the Homemaker tense. |
| Opposite polarity | Dreamer (−Ni Tragic Victim) | The Homemaker's open warmth struggles to reach a fated heaviness. |
| Same type | Homemaker (+Si × +Si) | Both supply warmth, so the relationship is stable but freshness tends to thin out. |
Homemaker is distributed across the two Quadras α and −β. While sharing +Si, the rational function (Fe / Te) and the values context differentiate the style of hospitality.
SEI-D Mediator, ESE-D Enthusiast. Under the influence of Fe (emotional ethics), hospitality appears as the emotional atmosphere of the space. The Mediator warms the space with a quiet, calming air; the Enthusiast with a bright, festive liveliness. "Emotional comfort" sits at the center.
SLI-D Craftsman, LSE-D Executive. Under the influence of Te (business logic), hospitality appears as practical utility and high quality. The Craftsman implements comfort through handwork and ingenuity; the Executive through stable provisioning. "The reliable quality of living" sits at the center.
The Homemaker's Promotion focus and orientation toward hospitality are consistent with several psychological and sociological theories.
| Theory | Correspondence with Homemaker |
|---|---|
| Higgins (1997, 1998) Regulatory Focus Theory | Promotion focus (pursuit of abundance, approach to the ideal self). "Spreading" and "enriching" sit at the motivational center. |
| Sternberg (1986) Triangular Theory of Love | Intimacy + Commitment (continuing devotion) at the center. Love expressed through everyday life. |
| Bowlby Attachment Theory | Close to secure attachment. The caregiving system is stably activated. |
| Fromm The Art of Loving | Productive love that takes joy in "giving." A view of love as sharing, not as possession. |
| Csikszentmihalyi Flow theory | Sustained flow experience within daily life. Cooking, housekeeping, and hospitality generate the flow state. |
