Irish playwright (1856–1950). In "Pygmalion," "Saint Joan," and "Heartbreak House" he sharply criticised Victorian hypocrisy, class, and war. Co-founder of the Fabian Society; advocate of gradual socialist reform. Nobel Prize in Literature 1925. The musical "My Fair Lady" was adapted from Pygmalion.
