葛飾北斎

Edo-period painter and printmaker (1760–1849). Elevated ukiyo-e prints to the highest artistic level with innovative composition and colour in "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" from "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji." Exported Japanese aesthetics to the world as "Japonisme." Continued working until the age of 89.
