Swedish diplomat and UN Secretary-General (1905–1961). As the 2nd Secretary-General he practised "diplomacy for peace," engaging with the Suez Crisis, Lebanon Crisis, and Congo Crisis. Died in a plane crash over Zambia. Nobel Peace Prize 1961 (posthumous). Diary "Markings" published posthumously.
