Philippine President (1933–2009). From wife of assassinated politician Benigno Aquino to overthrowing the Marcos dictatorship through the "People Power Revolution" (1986) and becoming President. The symbol of non-violent democratic transformation, she inspired similar movements across Asia. Governing for 6 years through 6 coup attempts, she stepped down voluntarily — a rare voluntary relinquishment of power in Southeast Asian history.
