Selim I ("the Grim")

Ottoman Sultan (1470–1520). "The Grim (Yavuz)" — expanding empire territory by more than double in an 8-year reign. Defeating the Safavid dynasty at Chaldiran and conquering the Mamluk Sultanate, he acquired the Caliphate and became the most powerful figure in the Islamic world. His son Suleiman I built on these conquests to create the Ottoman golden age. A supreme military conqueror whose speed and ruthlessness remain unmatched.
