Pragmatists

ST — Bearers of practice and order
Se・Si + Te・Ti (Sensing + Logic)

Essence of the Group

Practitioners of real-world craft and order

The Pragmatists Club is the group whose shared axis is the perception functions (Se, Si) and the judgment functions (Te, Ti). Conversation revolves around concrete things — technology, tools, the running of an organization. Talk turns toward how to solve the problem in front of them and how to use one's hands to finish the job, rather than toward theoretical abstraction. Sport, hands-on engineering project discussions and cooperation, car clubs, DIY and renovation activities are central elements of their interaction.

Shared Domains of Interest

Technology and implementation
Organizational management
Handwork and craft
Cars, machines, tools
Facility operations
Practical rationalization

Traits of the Club

Managers find their greatest usefulness in formal management structures, technology, and material production. Their hallmarks are firm attitude and organization in work, with a realist outlook and action; they ruthlessly reject fantasy and overly bold plans. Rather than debating "what if," they prefer those who act. Realism is reinforced with pragmatism.

Typical Activities and Group Settings

Interaction in groups of Pragmatists Club members tends to be based on sport, or on discussion of and cooperation in hands-on, engineering-related projects. Typical examples: car clubs (where members repair and customize their own cars), engineering teams, martial-arts dōjō, military organizations, craftsman guilds, manufacturing teams, police and fire services, mountaineering and survival outdoors clubs, and groups built around tinkering with machinery. Once the group endures, it splits into Heavy Pragmatist and Light Pragmatist.

Suitable Career Domains

Manufacturing and construction; engineering (mechanical, electrical, civil); quality control; production management; logistics and supply-chain management; product development; line/site management; military, police, firefighters; martial artists; craftsmen and artisans; chefs (technical side); machine technicians; surgeons (technical skill); athletes and coaches; civil-engineering design; on-site management; bureaucratic administration; hotel and facility operations.

Heavy Pragmatist and Light Pragmatist

This Club splits further into Heavy Pragmatist and Light Pragmatist. Both belong to the same Club and share the domain of interest, but they differ in the scale, character, and social context of their activity.

Heavy Pragmatist (dichotomy: Static)
Se + Ti (Extraverted Sensing + Introverted Logic) — centralized power orientation

Power-based, centralized management. Control through direct pressure and hierarchical authority. Excels in domains that demand force and order — military, police, top management of large enterprises, state machinery. Resolute quadras (β / -δ).

SLE-D SLE-Q LSI-D LSI-Q
Light Pragmatist (dichotomy: Dynamic)
Si + Te (Introverted Sensing + Extraverted Logic) — distributed/autonomous craftsman orientation

Geographically distributed, autonomous management. Values craftsman-level independence on the floor, quality control, and efficiency. Excels in shop-floor practical domains — manufacturing, crafts, facility operations, middle management. Prudent quadras (δ / -β).

Cubic Structure of the Eight Types

In the 32-type system this Club contains eight types, placed at the vertices of a cube along three axes.

Value Axis (X) Heavy Pragmatist ↔ Light Pragmatist
Rationality Axis (Y) Irrational (Perception-leading) ↔ Rational (Judgment-leading)
Democratic / Aristocratic Axis (Z) Democratic ↔ Aristocratic

Structural Cube — Type Placement

Value axis: Heavy · Resolute (β / -δ) (left) ↔ Light · Prudent (δ / -β) (right) Rationality axis: Irrational (top) ↔ Rational (bottom) Democratic / Aristocratic: Democratic (front) ↔ Aristocratic (back) SLE-D Conqueror SLE-Q Reformer LSI-D Inspector LSI-Q Overseer SLI-Q Artisan SLI-D Craftsman LSE-Q Administrator LSE-D Executive Heavy Pragmatist · Resolute Light Pragmatist · Prudent

Compatibility Cube — Model K Relations Map

Each edge and diagonal of the cube corresponds precisely to a different relation in Model K. This is a universal structure shared by all four Clubs.

X-axis edges (value axis) = Compass relation
Y-axis edges (rationality axis) = Mirror relation
Z-axis edges (Democratic/Aristocratic) = Adaptive relation
Diagonal (3-axis difference) = Quasi-Identity relation
Value axis = Compass relation Rationality axis = Mirror relation Democratic/Aristocratic = Adaptive relation SLE-D Conqueror SLE-Q Reformer LSI-D Inspector LSI-Q Overseer SLI-Q Artisan SLI-D Craftsman LSE-Q Administrator LSE-D Executive

※ Mirror (strongest along the edge), Compass, and Adaptive relations correspond to the three cube axes. Types differing on all three axes are in the Quasi-Identity relation.

Face-Diagonal (Two-Axis Difference) Relations

The face diagonals of the cube (types differing on two axes) also correspond to specific relations:

  • Different on Value + Rationality axesTranscendence relation
  • Different on Value + Democratic/Aristocratic axesDistance relation
  • Different on Rationality + Democratic/Aristocratic axesCodependency relation

Characteristics of Internal Relations

A Club contains no Duality pairs. Internal relations are composed mainly of Compass, Mirror, Adaptive, and Quasi-Identity; full agreement of values and deep psychological complementarity are not assumed. As a result, a Club:

  • Is highly active and productive in shared-theme discussion and activity
  • Is not suited to long-term intimacy or shared living; members naturally diverge into their own Quadras over time
  • Strongly contributes to the formation of specialty and professional identity
  • Internal cohesion is supported by Mirror (strong mutual understanding within the same Quadra) and Compass (the bridge between Heavy and Light)

How This Club Sees the Other Clubs

Cross-Club perceptions appear when each group is viewed through the lens of activity and interest. Once interaction deepens, Quadra-level perception takes priority.

Other ClubPragmatists' view
ResearchersSees Researchers with a mix of contempt and wary respect. Considers them useless for anything to do with "real work" or "the real world," yet is occasionally bewildered when Researchers display deep insight and knowledge.
Pragmatists
HumanitariansSees Humanitarians either as completely baffling in their ideas and convictions, or as overwhelmingly admirable for the same reason.
SocialsSees Socials as fun company but a bit lightweight.
