Nikola Tesla
Inventor · Serbian-American · 19th–20th c.
Serbian-born inventor and electrical engineer. He developed the alternating-current (AC) transmission system, winning the "War of Currents" against Edison to lay the foundations of modern electrical infrastructure. He invented the radio, the fluorescent lamp, and the Tesla coil, among many others. Despite surrendering his patents, he died penniless — yet the EV company Tesla carries his name.
