Talleyrand

Diplomat · French · 18th–19th c.

French diplomat and politician (1754–1838). He navigated 5 regimes — Ancien Régime, Revolution, Empire, and Restoration — while always remaining at the core of the state, earning the title "genius of diplomacy." He restored France's international standing at the Congress of Vienna. Both praised as a great pragmatist and condemned as an opportunist without principles.
