EII-Q "Философ" Author / Journalist · British · 20th c.British author and journalist (1903–1950). In Animal Farm he allegorically criticised Stalinism, and in 1984 he depicted surveillance society, totalitarianism, and language control (Newspeak). His clear, direct prose style and moral seriousness make him one of the most admired writers in English. Dying of tuberculosis at 46, he left behind two works that have shaped political imagination ever since.
