Diogenes of Sinope
ILE-D "Visionary" Philosopher · Greek · 4th c. BCAncient Greek philosopher (c. 412–323 BC). Living in a barrel, mocking the authority of kings and social norms — the supreme embodiment of the Cynic school. To Alexander the Great's offer of any gift: "Stand out of my sunlight." The original provocateur — his challenge to civilisation's conventions inspired every subsequent counter-cultural tradition.
Leading Function-Ne-p (Paradox & Insight)
"If an act is not shameful in private, it is not shameful in public" — a relentless paradox admitting no exceptions to the logic of convention. Carrying a lantern in broad daylight to "look for an honest man."
Creative Function+Ti-c (Precision & Thoroughness)
"If it is shameful to eat in the marketplace, why is hunger not shameful there?" — precise, uncompromising consistency applying logic without exception. "Live according to nature" applied as a principle.
Vulnerable Function 1-Fi-p weak (Compassion & Consideration)
Weak -Fi-p: "If my slave can live without Diogenes, Diogenes can live without the slave" — indifference to personal emotional bonds. Instructing his body be thrown into a river.
Vulnerable Function 2+Se-c weak (Reality & Common Sense)
Weak +Se-c: public defecation and masturbation — complete disregard for everyday social norms. No interest in managing daily life beyond minimum survival.
Quadra / Temperament / Club
Quadra: Anti-Gamma Quadra (Utopia) — "Property, the state, decorum, and competition enslave people" — total rejection of γ ownership and power. "I am a citizen of the world."
Temperament: Flexible-Maneuvering temperament: energetic public actions — improvised provocation in markets and squares. Optimistic and open.
Club: Researcher Club: intellectual accumulation through philosophical dialogues. Conversations with pupils as the transmission medium of knowledge.
Worldview & Attitude
"The hypocrisy and false conventions of civilised society exist" — the direct statement of present reality. The ないもの (a world freed from convention) is not proclaimed.
Attitude toward Change: A symbol of hope for 2,400 years through paradoxical living — "waiting" while time eventually caught up with his radical position.
