ILE-D "Visionary" Thinker / Film Director · French · 20th c.

French thinker and film director (1931–1994). In The Society of the Spectacle (1967) he argued that consumer capitalism transforms all life into "spectacle." A central figure of the Situationist International who influenced the May 1968 uprising. His critique of media and cultural commodification remains the most radical analysis of contemporary consumer society.
