Klemens von Metternich
LIE-Q "Commander" Diplomat / Chancellor · Austrian · 18th–19th c.Austrian Foreign Minister and Chancellor (1809–1848). He presided over the Congress of Vienna after the Napoleonic Wars and designed the European balance-of-power system. He repressed liberalism and nationalism as the great conservative diplomat of the "Metternich System." Driven from office by the revolutions of 1848, he remains the archetype of conservative statecraft.
Leading Function+Te-p (Practicality & Economy)
"Pragmatism as the foundation of policy" (consensus of multiple historians). Designing the Vienna Congress as "the most functional system for Europe" — moving on interest, not ideology. Using everything "because it works."
Creative Function-Ni-c (Warning & Divergence)
Holding since witnessing the French Revolution of 1789 that "democratic impulses produce demagogues who create monsters like Napoleon" — the core -Ni-c warning sustained across a lifetime. Forecasting the collapse of South German parliaments — "wait, and they will destroy themselves."
Vulnerable Function 1+Si-p weak (Comfort & Wellbeing)
Weak +Si-p (Comfort & Wellbeing): "Vanity, social adventure, love affairs" — apparently contradicting weakness, but these are -Se-p actions (display of prestige and authoritative presence as an Anti-Alpha value function), not sensory pleasure for its own sake.
Vulnerable Function 2-Fe-c weak (Harmony & Emotion)
Weak -Fe-c (Harmony & Emotion): banquets and personal relationship-building operated through +Fi-c (personal loyalty and trust-relationship management) — the Anti-Alpha value function, fundamentally distinct from collective emotional harmony.
Quadra / Temperament / Club
Quadra: Anti-Alpha Quadra (Meritocracy) — "The protection of church, monarchy, and aristocratic privilege" stated as one of the two great principles of policy.
Temperament: Linear-Assertive temperament: candid, forceful, speaking in numbers and facts. The impulse to declare and advance never wavered.
Club: Researcher Club: empirical intelligence-gathering through a Europe-wide spy and diplomatic network as the foundation of policy design. The Vienna Congress as systematic multi-national synthesis.
Worldview & Attitude
"Fundamental hostility to liberalism and nationalism" — deep scepticism of popular sentiment. A worldview that sees structural dangers acutely and trusts elite institutional order as the only durable response.
Attitude toward Change: Executing the Concert of Europe as a conservative transformation plan — the balance-of-power engineer. Designed to avoid failure through graduated equilibrium rather than revolutionary change.
