What becomes visible through this lens?

The two poles do not describe good and bad personalities or higher and lower ability. They describe different perspectives that may come naturally. Seeing both sides expands the choices available for dialogue and collaboration.

• Prioritizes the optimal "means" and "approach" within the current options and situation
• Values "how to proceed" more than "what to aim for"
• Goals change with the situation — finds objectives that fit the available path
• More interested in expanding current options than in pursuing a future ideal
• Tends to feel "emptiness" or "loss of direction" upon reaching a goal

Strategist

• Values "where am I heading" more than "how do I get there"
• Flexibly adjusts methods and means in service of achieving the goal
• Finds it difficult or disorienting to change a goal once it has been set
• Feels uneasy without a clear goal; may feel that "life has no meaning" without one
